Durian is the bomb.

It’s been over five months since my last post. Another shout out to Gigalixir, my PAAS (Platform as a Service) provider, for keeping me on the free plan.

I’ve gone back to the Bay Area to meet up with family and friends, hopped back over to this side of the puddle, taught a summer IT course and am now hammering on the keyboard, finishing my next book, Thank You, Silence.

Mom’s been loving durian since I bought her a small one during her cousin’s visit. She’s always been open to eating durian, but you’d think it’s her favorite fruit now. If you don’t know what durian is, don’t believe what you read on Merriam Webster. I wouldn’t describe it as “foul-smelling.” It looks like a mace and is simply the blue cheese of fruit, an acquired taste. One of the cleaners at her nursing home detected the smell coming from the garbage bin. When I volunteered that I was responsible for it, she told me the director had banned durian in the nursing home. I was thinking of buying some gluten-free snow skin durian mooncakes. I’m on the fence now.

Next time I go back to the Bay Area, I should bring her my favorite dessert, my friend Melanie’s calamansie pie.
